Let’s be honest. Most basketball players that venture into rap don’t find their way. Their musical abilities are never as good as their athletic abilities and this rings true with most athletes. Damian Lillard is a 2x NBA All-Star and starting point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers. Damian may be the “exception to the rule.” Lillard goes by the name Dame D.O.L.L.A, which stands for Different On Levels the Lord Allows.
If you’re in the know, then you’ve seen the singles he’s released over the last year. He’s also dropped several impressive videos of him spitting bars on his phone. DD has lately been seen on the radio circuit appearing on Sway’s show and a few others. That’s because he just gifted fans his debut album titled The Letter O. Makes you wonder if that has any connection to him wearing #0 on the Blazers.
The album is definitely more hip hop oriented. Dame talks about struggles growing up and his success as he becomes older. The opening track is titled Bill Walton, who is a former Blazer. The next track is a fan favorite titled Wasatch Front. He reminisces about his college days and shouts out his college coach at Weber State University, Phil Beckner. “If it wasn’t for Phil, I wouldn’t have made it to the league.”
The features on the debut of Dame D.O.L.L.A are rather surprising too. Big name features include the likes of Marsha Ambrosius, Jamie Foxx, Juvenile, and multi-platinum selling rapper Lil Wayne. Weezy helps lace an iTunes favorite titled Loyal To The Soil. There’s a lot of other familiar names as well so be sure to stream the album.
