Double tracking or vocal doubling is an audio recording technique where a artist sings or raps along with their prerecorded vocals. The technique is used to produce a stronger sound that couldn’t be obtained with single recorded vocals. Recently JMix YouTube Channel sat down with former Death Row Records engineer Tommy D who revealed that Tupac actually fathered this recording technique. Tommy D would state, “If you listen to old East Coast rap you won’t hear that. The original rap is just one take, no add-on’s are anything.” Be sure to watch the clip above.
