On April 28th Kanye West and T.I. gave to the world an unexpected collaboration with Ye Vs. The People. On the new track the two lyrically sparred, going back and forward, with the subject at hand being Kanye’s recent outlandish political views. “Make America Great Again had a negative reception/I took it, wore it, rocked it, gave it a new direction,” Kanye would rap on the newly released collab.
Now video footage has surfaced of Kanye and T.I. creating Ye Vs. The People courtesy of Kanye’s YouTube channel. Before Ye showed the track to T.I., which was pre-recorded without The King’s verses, they would have a discussion about Yeezy supporting President Donald Trump and MAGA. “When you have lives lost, as artists, that gives us an obligation to stand up against all that kind of sh*t. Your intentions, from what you tell me, are pure, but the direction that you took to get there is a bit unorthodox and kind of, I would say, some people would say, thoughtless,” T.I. would say to Ye.
Kanye West would respond to T.I. stating, “If I had not done what I felt, and I just thought, then it would have never happened. And when I wear that hat, it’s like a fight for equality. Like, ‘Oh, I can wear this hat too.” Ye would even reveal that ‘half the sh*t Trump does he doesn’t agree with’, in which T.I. would ask what does he agree with. The Chicago rapper would state, “Just the ability to do what no one said you can do, to do the impossible, is the most inspiring thing to me.”
Kanye would play T.I. a demo of Ye Vs. The People and explain to T.I. how he would like to structure the track with a political debate similar to what had occurred between the two of them before playing the tune. T.I. would take in Ye’s dialogue and start to record his verses, giving us Ye Vs. The People.
