The thing that rap music lacks the most these days is originality. It’s tough to define yourself as an individual. Ever so often we get an artist that is so original, its hard to define what genre they belong in. XXXtentacion is able to blend rap/hip hop, punk, emo rock, and electronic music all in one. This type of originality is what breeds his cult following. X blew peoples minds with his debut studio album 17 back in August 2017. Now, the Florida artist releases his second studio album titled ? (Question Mark).
? (Question Mark) had a few singles chart before the album released. The first single titled Hope was released and dedicated to the survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. X also put on a benefit show as well. The next two singles Sad! and Changes were released March 1, 2018. Sad! debuted at 17 (coincidentally) on Billboard Hot 100. That became his highest charting single while Changes debuted at 47.
The album ? (Question Mark) is expected to chart at Number 1 on the US Billboard 200. The album is estimated to sell between 110,000-125,000 album equivalent units.
XXXtentacion was joined by rappers Joey Badass, Matt Ox, PnB Rock, and legendary drummer Travis Barker. ? (Question Mark) was executive produced by long time collaborator John Cunningham with tracks by TM88 and Tre Pounds from 808 Mafia. It’s hard to describe this album other than saying there’s a little bit for everyone and it’s extremely artistic. This is what X had to say:
“This albums not about the words, it’s about the feeling…it’ll be very hard to understand, but very easy to listen to…it’s not what you’re expecting, even if you feel like you understand my music, be prepared to not understand this music.”
