It was in August when a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion was teased, now Will Smith has confirmed via Instagram that the show is preparing to make its return 30 years after the show’s debut.
Smith would take to Instagram and state, “Today is exactly 30 YEARS since The @FreshPrince of Bel-Air debuted!” Smith’s caption read. “So we’re doin’ something for y’all… a for real Banks Family Reunion is comin’ soon to @HBOmax! RIP James. #FreshPrince30th.”
Smith shared two photos, one with the cast of the Banks reunion and another with Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv (who J Cole likes to refer to as Dark Skinned Aunt Viv). In the photo with Smith and Hubert the two appear to share a laugh together. This would come as a surprise being that the two have had a decades old feud since she was replaced by Daphne Reid, who played Aunt Viv 2.0. Hubert in the past has blamed Smith for her firing from the classic black comedy.
In addition to the reunion special, an official merch line was revealed and Smith previously announced a Fresh Prince drama reboot had been picked up for two seasons on the NBC Universal streaming service Peacock. The HBO Max reunion special is expected to premiere around Thanksgiving.
